“It’s a tremendous blessing to be recognized in this manner.  With this recognition and honor comes responsibility, and we are excited about accepting that responsibility,” said Alonzo.  “We are so humbled by the gesture and look forward to the opportunity to be a part of so many different children's lives," Tracy said.

The Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus, led my Principal Sally Alayon, Assistant Principles Mayra Raya-Hernandez and David Hart, and Activities Director Ines Meras welcomes more than 600 freshman and sophomore students this school year.  The school currently boasts 33 teachers and 17 support staff; academies such as information technology, mass media, and marine biology and hospitality management; athletics including football, volleyball, golf basketball, baseball, swimming, bowling and soccer; and service, performing and academic clubs.

The Mournings have played an important role in the lives of youth across South Florida for many years – through mentoring and after-school enrichment programs, summer camps, and other ongoing community initiatives throughout the year. The Miami-Dade School Board recognized the positive affects the Mournings have on youth throughout the South Florida community and have honored this dynamic duo with naming a local high school after them.
